ICS FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS

SQ1_0043.jpg

The Filipino Martial Arts is an extremely effective and battle-tested weapons-based system. The bulk of your training in this art will be with weapons such as the stick, knife, and empty-handed (weapon vs. no weapon). Training heightens the student’s awareness of their surroundings and teaches them to make use of their environment for tools of combat.

Everyday objects, such as umbrellas, books, pens, bandannas, scarves, etc., become effective means of self-defense in the hands of a properly trained individual.

Drills and techniques are taught in a fluid, non-restrictive manner that allow students to enhance their natural attributes and improve their sense of timing, speed, awareness, balance, agility, and confidence.

The Filipino Martial Arts taught at ICS Academy are drawn from Armas de Mano Eskrima, Inosanto-Lacoste Kali, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, and ComTech Eskrima.

The ICS Filipino Martial Arts Program encompasses three areas of study: Weapons, Empty-Hand, and Grappling.  Students will learn these areas of study in our "Phase" classes.

FIGHT SCENES FEATURING FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS:

Neurological Benefits

Kali has demonstrated surprising neurological benefits. The use of rhythm and geometric movement patterns, in addition to the two-handed weaving motions—which promotes “cross-lateralization” between the right and left hemispheres of the brain—can improve concentration, creativity and even memory loss. According to studies at UCLA, it can reduce the effects of aging on the mind, help with cognitive disabilities and even aid in the recovery from traumatic brain injuries. Kali is an amazing art. Check out the video below for a more in depth look at Kali as a neurologically restorative art:
